I feel really anxious taking my cat to the vet because of her behaviour

My cat has a skin infection and really needs to go to the vet. She’s not technically mine; she started hanging around my house, and I took her to see if she was microchipped, but she wasn’t. The problem is, she’s a complete nightmare when it comes to going to the vet. She refuses to get into the cage, is aggressive, hisses, cries, and runs away. The last time I took her, I was drenched in sweat the whole time. The vet insists I need to bring her in, but I’m really dreading it. I’m worried about her distress and whether she could have a heart attack on the way there. Any ideas or reassurance would be helpful!

Maybe ask your vet for something to relax her, like a pill.

They won’t even give you gabapentin? That seems odd. Most vets will prescribe it to help calm anxious cats.

I’d definitely see another vet if they won’t give something as simple as gabapentin. It’s better for her health to be calm during the visit.

Have you thought about using a mobile vet? Or getting a larger cat carrier that opens at the top? It might make it easier to get her in.

Cats can be dramatic! If you can ask for something to calm her beforehand, it might ease her stress.
