How harmful is it to leave pee residue on dog overnight?

Hello all! My spouse and I have a geriatric dog who has to wear diapers. We clean her up whenever she gets wet, but now she’s peeing in her sleep while we’re sleeping, and we can’t change her till we wake up. When we do, we clean her immediately away. Is it hazardous to her if her pee is only on her overnight and then bathed when we wake up?

If she has longer hair, clip the hair around that area short, but don’t be concerned if she has short hair. Grab some SudoCream. Zinc cream. Place that around the area before retiring to bed. This will function as a skin barrier if she riddles, preventing uric acid burn.

In case you are unaware, big puppy pads are reusable and washable. In case you’re utilizing single-use ones. In the long term, it is considerably more cost effective than purchasing packs of pads.

I had an elderly dog that I needed to diaper for a long, and I maintained his fur in that area cut.

Nothing worse than on a baby. People don’t expect you to wake a baby for a diaper change. That is why disposable diapers are vented, to absorb urine and keep it away from the skin.

Please do not apply zinc lotion on her because zinc is extremely toxic to dogs due to its high concentration; you should be cautious even when using zinc sunscreen around them if they lick.

You can use coconut oil or Vaseline to prevent urine scald, but you should consult your veterinarian to determine if any medications can help her.

She could develop rashes from having Urie on her skin overnight, especially if it does not completely dry. If she has lengthy hair, shave her back end.

I have a dog who did this and had rashes that quickly became infected. It depends on how sensitive your dog’s skin is. I would get up, inspect, and clean it. Check the skin to ensure that it is not causing a rash.

All I can advice you to do is to consult your veterinarian about the available choices. She may develop a rash or have skin irritation, but she is not in imminent danger; diapers are intended to be worn during sleep periods.
