At my mum’s, I have this cute little dog who doesn’t misbehave, but when she poops, she somehow manages to get it all over her fluffy white rear every time. No joke. Today, she even managed to get it on the side of her body—HOW? None of the other dogs do this. Is this a medical condition, or is my dog just special? Any advice would be appreciated.
Unless she has incontinence, which it doesn’t sound like, she might just be special. You could get her a sanitary groom to shave her butt, which would help keep her cleaner.
Have you watched her while she’s going? Maybe she’s scooting in it or rolling afterward. If it’s just getting stuck in her fur, try trimming the hair around her backside. If her poop is soft or runny, get her checked for worms and consider adding fiber, like pumpkin, to her diet.
A sanitary clip will help. Shaving the area can reduce the mess.

I have a small fluffy dog, and when her fur gets poop on it, I just cut it off. It’s much easier to manage that way.
Poms are notorious for this—fluff and how they’re built make it tricky for them to stay clean.
Shaving her rear can help if her fluff is causing the issue. As for how it got on her side—maybe she kicked it and got it on her paw, then scratched herself?
If she has long hair, trimming her fur regularly around the butt should help.
Is she having loose stools?
My dog has a shaggy coat, and once a week, I comb her butt hairs to both sides to keep them from matting. If the hair gets too long, I cut it. Sometimes, I still have to clean up stuck messes with water. Maybe a regular grooming routine would help?
Have you had her anal glands checked? They can sometimes cause messes like this.
