How do I keep neighbors' pets from urinating on my front door?

I live in an apartment and my neighbors have a few cats and a small dog, plus there are some stray cats around. I’m looking for ways to deter them from making a mess at my front screen door. I’m really not trying to harm them, just tired of the smell. Anyone have tips?

I’ve had good luck with using cayenne pepper as a deterrent. Also, essential oils like lemon and peppermint work really well for keeping cats away. They make my porch smell nice too

Cayenne pepper? Does it really work? I’ve never tried that before

You could try using wolf urine pellets or granules by your door. They shouldn’t smell bad to us but will make smaller animals think a big predator is around, which should help deter them

Where do you even get wolf urine? Sounds kinda wild

Cleaning with vinegar can help too. If the area smells like pee, they’ll keep coming back. Vinegar helps remove those odors

I recommend using a motion sensor spray for cats. There are a lot of options out there, and they can help keep them away without harming them

What’s a motion sensor spray? Is it like something that sprays water or something else?

@Kingsley
Yeah, it sprays when it detects motion. It’s harmless but effective

Make sure to clean really well first with an enzyme cleaner. Then, you could even put out some pet food to distract them from peeing there

Pet food? Wouldn’t that attract more animals to the area?

@Kai
Yeah, but it might keep them from marking their territory if they’re focused on food instead
