Hiii! Hello, new to the community… I kinda need tips and advice on how to keep or maintain my Shih Tzu’s fur long and shiny. I’m the owner of a 4-year-old Shih Tzu, and I’ve noticed that her fur is fluffy but a bit on the dry side. My dad suggested keeping her fur longer since her color is a nice chocolate color. I’ve been wanting to braid her hair, but I’m scared I might hurt her with tangles and stuff. Anyone have any ideas?
Hey there! A key tip is to brush her fur regularly to prevent tangles. It really helps keep the fluffiness and shine.

What kind of brush do you recommend for Shih Tzus?

A slicker brush works great! It gets through the fluff nicely without hurting them.
Conditioner can work wonders! Maybe consider a dog-friendly conditioner after baths. Just make sure it’s safe for her.

Oh nice, I’ll look into that! Any specific brands you like?
@Mal
I’ve had good luck with the Earthbath line. They have some nice options!
Braid her hair? That’s so cute! Just be gentle when you do it. Maybe start with loose braids to avoid pulling.

Good idea! I’ll try that. I just wanna make sure she’s comfy.
Make sure to feed her good quality food too! Sometimes diet affects fur quality.

Totally! I’ll check her food ingredients. Thanks for the reminder!
Could also consider adding some fish oil to her diet. It helps with the shine and moisture!
