How do I bathe my elderly dog with mobility issues

Hello guys, I could use some advice on how to bath my 15-year-old dog since he has trouble moving around. We used to bathe him in the bathtub, but now he can’t get in without hurting himself and he gets scared when I try to pick him up. What are some good ways to make bath time easier for him? Is it a good idea to bathe him in the yard with a hose? I’m looking for ways to help him feel more comfortable.

If it’s warm outside, a kiddie pool with the hose could work well. Many pet stores also have dog wash stations with steps for dogs who need a little help getting in.

You could also try dry dog shampoo if you’re having trouble finding a good way to bathe him.

Check with local pet stores, as some have pet washing stations that include blow dryers, or consider a mobile pet washing service.

Getting a professional groomer is probably the best option. They use hydrobaths with warm water and have tables that adjust for older dogs. There are even mobile groomers who can come to you if you don’t want to travel. It might cost more, but it’s a lot more comfortable for an older dog and they do a really thorough job.

I used to struggle bathing my border collie in the tub, and it was always a mess. Now, using professional groomers for two years has made a huge difference. My dog always comes back perfectly clean and relaxed.

I used to put a tarp on the ground and bathe my older dogs that way. A bucket of hot water for rinsing is great because it cools off quickly. They loved it! I massaged them with shampoo and used a cream rinse. If you’re inside, use a bathroom or a room you can easily clean. Just put towels under the tarp so the hard floor doesn’t hurt their bones. My dogs always ended up clean and happy.
My best! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:
