Hello, I’m just curious what temps can cats and dogs tolerate. I keep my house at around 68-70 normally for my girlfriend and 2 kids. They are gone this weekend, and I’m doing a deep clean of my house. I want to turn the heat off and open up the windows to let the place air out as I work. I’d be wearing sweatpants and a hoodie. Temps are ranging from 40-60. Just wanted to make sure I’m not making my furbabies uncomfortable or at risk during it.
If they are healthy, a good weight, have their natural coats and are breeds that are normally okay in those temps (not Chihuahuas or hairless), they should be fine.
Fur babies aside, I wouldn’t let your pipes get down into the 40s. A brief airing out should be tolerable for your pets, but don’t let those drafts chill your bathroom or any water lines and cause a freeze up.
Also depends on the type of dog. Although my shihtzu mix can grow a good amount of hair, he will shiver when it’s cool. A chihuahua does not tolerate cold at all. Cats pretty much don’t care in my experience.
It depends on the type of coat your dogs have. Cats should be fine at those temps for a few hours, but if your dogs have short coats, they might get cold.
Maybe you can lower the heat instead? I can’t tolerate under 20 Celsius during very cold winter nights. Or, 20 Celsius is my bare minimum for inside temperature. Never below.
40-60 they’re fine. Unless they’re furless then they’d be chilly.
My boys (pitbull mix) start to shiver and curl up in a little ball when the house is 68° so I put a hoodie or pajamas on them lol.
The mental picture of doggos in hoodies or jammies is very cute. Awww!
