How can I stop my neighbor's dog from peeing by my door?

So, here’s the thing… I share a front yard with my neighbor and her dog seems to really love peeing right outside my front door. It’s not cool, especially when my guests come over and get hit with that strong smell. I really don’t mind her dogs being in the yard, but this spot is just too much. I haven’t brought it up with her yet, but I’m wondering if there are any pet-safe solutions I could use on the wall or ground to prevent this. Does anyone have any ideas?

I’ve seen some sprays in pet stores that are supposed to help discourage dogs from marking. Maybe give that a shot?

Thanks for the tip! I think I’ll try the spray.

First step is to clean the area really well. If it’s concrete or something, do you have a power washer? Getting rid of the smell can help a lot.

Good point! I’ll make sure to clean it up, thanks. I didn’t even think about that.

Once it’s clean, try one of those pet deterrent sprays. Or, if you have grass, consider a motion-activated sprinkler. That could redirect them.

@Riley
I like that idea! I might look into a sprinkler.

You can use an enzymatic pet odor cleaner to really scrub the area and then maybe have a chat with your neighbor about her letting the dogs out. If it’s a shared yard, is there a way she can take them out on a leash?

@Wynn
Yeah, I get that. Not sure how she could manage that with the enclosed yard though.

@Wynn
Well, it might help if she’s out with them to guide them to a different spot.

Honestly, changing learned behaviors takes time. She might have to be more proactive instead of just letting them out. Perhaps a more active approach would help.

That’s true. I never thought about how much it depends on her actions too.

You could even try putting stuff like cayenne pepper down around your door. I hear it works to keep dogs away.

Interesting tip, I might give that a shot too!
