Flea dirt... is it a sign of fleas still being around?

I adopted a kitty with fleas about 5 months ago, and it’s been tough. Yesterday, I treated her and my whole place with Solano Spray. I saw three dead fleas almost right away. Today, she’s still itching a bit, but not too much, and I found some flea dirt on her ear. Could this just be leftover from the old fleas, or does it mean she still has them? Has anyone else faced this issue?

I’ve been there before! I think flea dirt could just be old stuff from before. Did you vacuum too? That can help clear everything out.

Yes, I did vacuum! Trying to cover all the bases, lol. Fingers crossed it’s just old dirt.

What’s Solano Spray? I used something different for my cat, but I’m always looking for good recommendations.

Oh, Solano is a spray that kills fleas on contact. I saw a few dead ones right after using it!

Is it safe for all ages? My cat is a bit older, so I’m careful about chemicals.

Good question! It’s generally safe, but maybe check with your vet to be sure, especially for older cats.

If she’s still itching a bit, it could just be some leftover fleas or eggs that haven’t fully cleared out. Maybe do another treatment in a week?

I’ll keep an eye on it! I think I’ll wait a week and see if it improves. Thanks!

Flea dirt always gets me worried too, lol. I read it’s usually dried blood that fleas have fed on. Gross, but it might not mean more fleas.

Right?! It’s kinda gross, haha. But if it’s just leftover, that would be a relief.

Wait, what exactly is flea dirt? I’ve seen it mentioned, but I’m not sure what it really is.

Basically, it’s flea poop or dried blood the fleas leave behind. Lovely, right? :joy:

Ew! That’s… kinda gross, haha. But good to know!
