Dog help, someone please give me advice

My dog is going through a rough patch right now. He has epilepsy and an immune-related disease. Yesterday, he started having terrible muscle tremors and throwing up. He hasn’t stopped vomiting since, and he refuses to eat. The vomit looks strange—almost like carpet fibers, but we don’t have any carpet at home. I’ve scheduled a vet appointment for tomorrow.

My concern is if he needs surgery, what am I supposed to do? I don’t have the money for a few grand in surgery, and I have no credit since I’m young. I literally can’t take on that much debt. What should I do?

We just put down our 8-year-old dog who had epilepsy. Seizures cause a lot of damage, even on medication. Toward the end, it was clear she wasn’t enjoying life anymore. We did what we could, but it’s not necessary to spend thousands if it’s a losing battle. Don’t feel guilty if that’s the decision you need to make.

He’s only 4 years old, so I wasn’t expecting this so soon. I’m just so lost and don’t know how to help him.

Do you know why he has seizures? If it’s epilepsy, I can tell you it’s a tough road, both financially and emotionally. We went through it, and it was heartbreaking.

@Shan
Yes, it’s genetic epilepsy. I just don’t know if I’m ready to let him go.

We put our dog down just last week, and it’s been incredibly hard. Looking back, we wish we had done it sooner because her quality of life wasn’t good. It’s tough, but sometimes it’s the kindest option.

@Shan
I’m starting to wonder if that’s the best option. I don’t want him to suffer, but I don’t want to give up on him either.

It’s not an easy choice, but it’s about what’s best for him. We didn’t want our girl to suffer any more than she had to. It sounds like your dog is going through a lot right now, and you might have to make a hard decision at the vet tomorrow.

He’s having muscle tremors, won’t eat, and keeps vomiting. Is that what happened with your dog? I feel so helpless right now, but I think tomorrow’s vet visit is going to be difficult.

Yes, that’s exactly what happened with our dog on her last day. We knew it was time. We didn’t want her to suffer anymore. When we took her in, we made sure she had a peaceful experience. We gave her a cheeseburger right before the first shot to make sure her last moments were happy.

@Shan
Thank you for sharing your experience with me. At least now I’ll be a little more prepared for what might happen. I’m so sorry for your loss, and I hope your dog is at peace now.

She was ready, and I’m sure your dog will let you know when he is, too. You’re doing everything you can for him, and that makes you an amazing dog parent.
