Hi all, new here. I have a scenario I’m not sure what to do about. We drove 1.5 hours to meet a pup that was being fostered by an employee of a rescue organization in my state. Met her, family immediately fell in love and of course we took her home with us. The rescue organization has a one week trial period to make sure it’s a good fit for the dog and new family or owner. Totally acceptable and smart policy in my opinion. So, the week went by, they reached out to verify twice, once at 48 hours and then once a week later to check in and see if all was well. Definite yes on our part, we love our new 1-year-old Shepsky pup. They said great, they’d get the paperwork together. A week goes by, no paperwork. I reach out and they say, ‘Sorry, been busy, I’ll get it out to you tonight.’ It’s been another week and still no paperwork. I reach back out. They say, ‘Sorry so sorry, I’ll get you the paperwork today.’ Now, it’s yet another week with still nothing. Our pup is spayed, chipped, up to date on vaccinations, etc., but I have no paperwork stating what has been administered and when. No info on the chip either. And we owe them a $400 adoption fee to cover all of this. I’ll keep reaching out I suppose and I’m happy to pay the adoption fee, but I’m honestly kinda worried I’m never going to get this officially finalized.
Your dog is happy and healthy and thus at the bottom of the worry list. They’ll get to you, just make sure your pup has local tags and I’d suggest a phone number on the collar too.

You make good points, thank you! We have her outfitted with a fresh collar and a tag with her name, address, and phone.
They likely have dozens of other dogs they are trying to home and are happy they know the pup is safe with you. Just be a little more patient, I’m sure it will happen.

Appreciate the reassurance and insights! Makes sense when you put it like that.
Ask your vet if they can figure out who has the microchip, and if they are able to change the name and address on the chip. Then, just put $400 in an envelope and wait for the adoption agency to contact you.
Honestly, I don’t even think I would worry that much. The main thing now would be to change the chip’s info. You don’t really need all the papers. If you know what was done to the dog, just telling your vet will do. They will put that into his new file and start from there.
@Hux
Wait, what do you mean by changing the chip’s info? Like, how does that work?

Oh, the microchip company can help you update the information. Your vet can usually guide you on this.
They don’t want the $400, that’s a win in my book. You can put that into his emergency vet visit savings account.
