Hello!
I recently adopted a kitten from my local animal shelter, and I’m looking for the most affordable pet insurance options, mainly for accidents and illnesses. I’m a college student and work part-time, so I don’t have the funds to pay $70+ a month for pet insurance coverage. The top two options I’ve found are Healthy Paws at ~$15/month with a $250 deductible and Pets Best at ~$25/month with a $250 deductible. Both plans have unlimited payouts, so I assume there’s no cap on how much can be covered within the policy year. For reference, I live in Suffolk County, New York.
I’ve heard that both companies tend to increase their rates each year, especially Healthy Paws. Additionally, I’ve seen that Healthy Paws doesn’t cover dental diseases, while Pets Best does cover periodontal diseases. I’m trying to get the best value for my money, so if anyone has experience or feedback regarding these two companies, please share. I’m trying to gather as much advice as possible before making a decision.
My main goal is to find a company with good longevity and decent coverage—something that will cover emergencies like surgeries, UTIs, infections, etc. I’m willing to deal with rate increases as long as they’re reasonable, but I can’t see myself paying $150+ for pet insurance in the future.
