Hello, guys, My flatmate and I could need some help! My flatmate has a cat named Binx. He enjoys the outdoors and is a really sweet boy. My flatmate bought him in January of this year, and he loves to take a piss anywhere! From the dining table to the beanbag, and even in the fruit bowl . He is now doing it continually by the front door. We’ve tried numerous cures and nothing appears to be helping; we’re starting to suspect it’s a behavioral issue. However: It’s getting harder to keep up, even though we don’t want to give him away. Please aid with any advice.
I experienced a fairly similar issue. My cat, which had no problems for years, suddenly began pissing and shitting on my bed. Nothing I tried would stop him from doing it, and I ultimately realized he was upset because he was left alone while I was at work. When I realized this and asked my younger brothers to spend a few hours a day with him in my room while I was away, as well as my grandmother to have him in her room on occasion, the problem went away. It’s possible that he suffers from separation anxiety and is upset that you’ve left.
We assumed it might be that as well! He did it again yesterday night while everyone was sleeping, so it’s unclear what it may be! But I’ll surely make sure his flatmates pay him more attention; perhaps that’s the solution!
Is he neutered? That is step one. The Feliway plug-ins are another option I’ve heard of that may assist with behavioral inappropriate urination, but they are quite hit or miss.
Hi! yep he is neutered! that’s a really good idea, I’ll let her know thank you
It’s either a medical or behavioural problem.
The first thing to check is that there are enough litter trays, that they are cleaned daily, if not after each use, and that the litter type is not causing him grief.
You should see a veterinarian to rule out any health issues such as UTIs, bladder stones, cystitis, or kidney difficulties.
If none of these solutions work, it could be an anxiety issue. Typically, people will try non-pharmaceutical therapies like feliway or food supplements, but we had to try anxiety medication, and two different sorts, before we found the proper drug.
Also, to clean things, you’ll have to use an enzyme cleaner for cat urine. Nothing else will completely get rid of the compounds in the urine that cause the stench and encourages commenting.
We clean the litter boxes every day. My flatmate has taken him to the vet several times, and they have confirmed that there is nothing wrong with him internally. He is on anxiety medication and UTI inflammatory drugs, but these do not appear to be helping, therefore she is considering switching the medication to fluoxetine:)
My cat started peeing and spraying everywhere a few months ago. We tried several medications for anxiety. Fluoxetine worked best for her.
