Allergic to cats… any help?

My daughter is 20 and just got a kitten, only to find out she’s allergic. We really don’t want to give up the cat or have her take allergy meds every day. Anyone got some tips on how to manage this? Would appreciate any advice!

Honestly, I think your only options are rehoming the kitten or having her take daily allergy meds.

There’s a special cat food by Purina that’s supposed to help, but it’s kinda pricey. An air purifier might also help. I’d recommend brushing the cat daily to reduce loose fur and definitely washing hands after touching it.

I’m super allergic too, and I live with three cats right now. Even though I take daily meds, I still have reactions like burning eyes and sneezing. I try not to touch them directly (I even use a back scratcher sometimes!). My allergies to my own cats have gotten better over time, but other people’s pets still give me a hard time. For me, they’re family, so it’s worth it, but honestly, all the meds and air filters in the world won’t completely get rid of the allergy.

I only take meds when it gets really bad. After 6 years, my symptoms aren’t too serious—mostly just red eyes and sneezing. A big tip is to avoid touching your face after petting the cat. That helps a lot.

I’m super allergic too, but of course, I ended up getting two cats. I didn’t want to take meds and couldn’t afford allergy shots, so I kinda forced myself to get used to it. It was rough at first, but my body adjusted over time. That said, I wouldn’t suggest anyone else go through what I did unless they’re really sure about it.
