Advice on My 13-Year-Old Cat with Pancreatitis

CAT

I was hoping for some peace of mind or advice about my cat Micah. She is 13 and was diagnosed with pancreatitis. She’s been on pain and nausea meds along with an appetite stimulant, and we are currently on day 2 of at-home treatment. We’ve been syringe feeding her, and she’s getting a good amount of food and hydration pouches. I’m wondering what small signs others have noticed when their cats recover from pancreatitis. She used the litter box today, which I think is a good sign, but she seems pretty drowsy. This has been really hard and scary, so any advice would be appreciated. Thank you

I can’t tell you what to look for as your baby recovers. My Domino was 13 when he developed pancreatitis, and after several vet visits, he showed no improvement. I could tell he didn’t have much time left when he stopped drinking water. I was syringe feeding him until he stopped taking both food and water. Good luck, and I hope for your baby’s recovery.

I’m so sorry to hear that, sending my love  I decided to take her to the emergency vet just to be safe.

What pain meds and nausea meds is she on? Getting cats to eat ASAP improves prognosis. Early feeding and recovery food help. Read the ACVIM guidelines.

She’s on Gabapentin, Sucralfate, and Ondansetron. I managed to get a whole can of food fed to her today by syringe. I took her to the emergency vet just to be safe.

Consider asking your vet about Buprenorphine for pain and Maropitant for nausea; they can be very effective for pancreatitis.

Thank you!
