9lb dog ate a cadbury egg

Our 9-pound dog just ate a complete standard-sized Cadbury egg. My veterinarian’s emergency number is not working, and I’m not sure what to do.

She’s not exhibiting any unusual behavior, but I don’t want to pass up an opportunity to act.

I would appreciate any help.

If it isn’t dark or baker’s chocolate, I wouldn’t be too concerned. Keep an eye on her and attempt to contact a vet to see if they can offer any professional advice. However, while milk chocolate is not healthy for them, it is so processed that it lacks the quantities of theobromine found in less processed chocolate and hence does not affect them.

I appreciate the information. It appears that we can relax a bit. Appreciate

If you are afraid, you may always phone the ASPCA, and they will tell you whether you need to take your dog to the vet or not.

I do not eat candy. The Cadbury egg is exclusively covered in milk chocolate, correct? It is not solid chocolate if it is simply programmed. Yeah, because the Cadbury egg usually has something on the inside, so that’s not much at all.

Right. It’s like a shell with creme filling. The vet just said the same thing… mostly sugar and junk.

In the United States, call the Pet Poison Hotline at 855-764-7661. In Massachusetts, we have pet urgent care centers. If you have them with you, contact them or a major animal hospital. I have never used it, but there is also an Ask a Vet website. Simply google pet poison hotline, pet urgent care, or pet emergency hospital.

My dog ate a large bag of Snickers and was fine. Still worth keeping an eye on, though. Alternatively, call your veterinarian.

Dogs can consume small amounts of chocolate without issue. Some people may experience stomach upset, such as vomiting or diarrhea. Even so, as long as they are not lethargic or breathing abnormally. Alternatively, something worse will be fine. I know someone who gives their dog occasional Hersey kisses and he’s fine. However, it is extremely toxic in large quantities.

As long as it’s milk chocolate, she should be fine, though she may have some soft poops and gas.

My friend’s small dog unwrapped and ate an entire box of Whitman’s chocolates from under the Christmas tree. My friend was working a 12-hour shift and noticed when she arrived home. Surprisingly enough, the dog was fine! I’m not sure if it was due to the low quality of the chocolate.
